Using the power of innovative science and modern technology, Dr SW Clinic can help you live your best pain-free life without the need for invasive surgery.

Facet joint syndrome, also known as facet joint osteoarthritis or simply facet arthritis, is a condition that affects the facet joints of the spine.

Facet joints are small, paired joints located between the vertebrae in the spine. They help provide stability to the spine and allow for smooth movement between the individual vertebrae.

Facet joint syndrome occurs when these joints become inflamed, degenerate, or experience wear and tear, leading to pain and discomfort.

At Dr SW Clinics, we can treat a range of pain conditions using Regenerative Medicine and pain-relieving injections. If you are tired of living with pain and looking for a non-surgical intervention, then Dr SW Clinics could help you get back to your optimal quality of life.

FAQ's

Facet joint syndrome is primarily caused by the natural ageing process and degeneration of the facet joints. Over time, the cartilage within the joints can wear down, leading to bone-on-bone contact, inflammation, and pain. Other factors that can contribute to facet joint syndrome include spinal injuries, excessive stress on the joints, and genetic predisposition.

The most common symptom of facet joint syndrome is localised pain in the affected area of the spine. The pain is typically characterized as a dull, aching discomfort that can be aggravated by certain movements or positions. Depending on the location of the affected facet joints, pain may be felt in the neck, upper back, or lower back. In some cases, facet joint syndrome can lead to referred pain, meaning the discomfort is felt in areas away from the affected joints.

Depending on the joint issue you present with, there may be a couple of ways to diagnose your pain and thereby find you a lasting solution.

Firstly, you will have a telephone consultation with one of our highly trained patient advisors. This patient advisor will ask you a series of pre-assessment questions to better understand your personal needs.

You will then be invited for a consultation with one of our leading experts. To better gain an understanding of the problem, the Consultant may suggest you receive an x-ray or an MRI.

What is an x-ray?
A diagnostic test that can help identify what issues are causing the pain.

What is an MRI?
A diagnostic test using a magnetic field and radio waves for a detailed image of both joint and soft tissue.

What is an ultrasound?
Typically a handheld device that provides an on the spot image of the soft tissue.

Once we’ve received the results of your diagnostic tests, our team will be able to advise you on next best steps to get you pain free.
