As women age, the effects of the menopause are manifested in ageing of the vagina.
This can be in the form of internal concerns such as dryness or painful sexual intercourse, as well at outward problems including atrophy or fat loss in the outer labia.
In menopausal women or athletic women, the labia can become flat through loss of volume ( loss of fat) and the skin starts to sag as we age. As well as being cosmetically unappealing, which can affect confidence and relationships with partners, a lack of volume or cushioning can lead to discomfort in everyday life. Simple things like sitting down, riding a bicycle or a horse can be uncomfortable without extra padding in the labia. Using dermal filler products, similar to the hyaluronic-acid based soft tissue fillers that we use for lip augmentation and facial contouring, labia fillers can add back lost volume to the labia and improve a number of vaginal concerns.

How do labia fillers work?
Augmentation of the labia majora, the outer labia of the vagina, can help many women at different stages of their lives and is performed using non-animal, hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler products.
The products that we use in our labia fillers treatment include Desirial, Neauvia Rose and Regenyal Armonia fillers and others, which have been specially formulated to be used in the female intimate area for long-lasting, stable results from labia majora augmentation.
Desirial contains mannitol, as well as hyaluronic acid (19mg/ml or 21mg/ml in Desirial Plus). Mannitol has both hydrating and antioxidant properties that make it an ideal excipient for use with hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. Mannitol is also great for reducing the effects from the act of injecting, such as redness and swelling, as well as helping to make the hyaluronic acid last longer in the tissue.
Neauvia Rose is also a hyaluronic acid-based product, but it also contains glycine and L-Proline. These are two amino acids which are the main ingredients when building collagen. This product also has a high concentration of hyaluronic acid (28mg/ml) which had a high viscosity, making it a thick gel, ideal for correction of lipoatrophy (fat loss), replacing structure and volume and augmenting the soft tissue of the female vagina.
Regenyal Armonia is a biorivolumetric hyaluronic acid-based product (25mg/ml) which is made using a gentle cross-linking process of the hyaluronic acid molecules which allows it to create a 3D matrix when implanted in the skin. The particles of the product are smaller than many other filler products which helps it to integrate and distribute within the tissue, the labia. This provides a more natural corrective result. Labia fillers are ideal for correcting asymmetries in the labia, restoring elasticity to the perineum and other areas of the vulvo-vaginal region. It can also be used to correct and improve episiotomy scarring and improve vaginal dryness.

Where labia have lost volume, Desirial, Neauvia Rose or Regenyal Armonia hyaluronic acid gels can be injected to instantly plump up the area, draw more water into the vaginal area, to enlarge, hydrate and revolumise the labia once more.
Enlargement of the labia majora can also be performed in younger women, to help conceal the labia minora (inner labia), helping with asymmetry and giving a more proportional appearance to the genitalia.
Augmentation and rejuvenation of the labia can also contribute towards resolving other problems, such as vaginal dryness, as the labia majora cover the area more effectively protecting the inner vaginal tissues from drying influences. Rejuvenation of the area can also lead to increased sensation and satisfaction during sexual intercourse, especially if dryness is corrected.
It will also restore firmness, hydration, tone, suppleness and elasticity to the area which can improve previous problems of irritation, discomfort, chaffing or itchiness. The added volume will remove discomfort previously experienced from sitting.
Placement of product is performed using a thin cannula placed through one needle insertion point. The hyaluronic acid gels can then be delivered evenly around the area for optimal augmentation.

Those with a known allergy or sensitivity to hyaluronic acid will not be suitable for treatment.
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, you will also not be suitable for this treatment until after that stage in your life.
To avoid discomfort in this sensitive area, treatment is performed after application of local anaesthetic and numbing cream.
The fillers procedure – part of our vaginal rejuvenation treatment range – takes approximately 20-30 minutes, including the application of the topical anaesthesia. Injecting the hyaluronic acid will take approximately 15 minutes.
You will be able to return to work and your normal activities immediately post-treatment, but you should expect to feel some discomfort for a little while afterwards.
Expect some swelling, redness, tenderness, itching and pain in the vaginal area, which can be managed with over the counter pain medications such as paracetamol and cold compresses or ice packs. This should resolve after a few days.
You should refrain from sexual intercourse for a week to avoid the risk of infection at the injection point(s).
Results from the labia fillers procedure will be visible immediately post-treatment. The body will slowly metabolise the hyaluronic acid gel over time. Given the specific products used, Desirial and Neauvia Rose, which are designed solely for use in the intimate areas of the female body, results are long-lasting, up to two years in some people.
