Dr Sherif Wakil offers VASER liposuction procedures for fat removal, but he also performs a more advanced technique known as VASER Hi Def or high definition for body sculpting.

VASER, which stands for “Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, is a well establish ultrasound assisted liposuction system. The techniques used with VASER liposuction remove deep and superficial fats and slimmer lines.

With the state-of-the-art VASER Hi Def, we can take body sculpting and contouring a step further by targeting much smaller fatty deposits located around and on top of the muscle, making it ideal for fine contouring and to add definition to muscle groups for abdominal, chest, back, arm and thigh sculpting.

Treatment with VASER High Definition or Hi Def liposculpture is an advanced body contouring technique used to sculpt and create a more athletic appearance to the body, removing fat that surrounds muscle groups to carve out a toned look with improved visibility of the underlying musculature.

This procedure is popular for revealing abdominal muscles for the classic 6-pack stomach in both men and women, as well as defining pectoral muscles, decreasing bulk in the thighs, and toning up arms, shoulders, and back areas.

The VASER Hi Def leave skin tighter thanks to the precision of the technique and the use of sounds waves, or ultrasound to break up the fat more precisely than manual liposuction techniques.

VASER High Definition liposuction can be used to sculpt body areas including:

  • Abdomen – defining the six-pack, addressing a mummy tummy or post C-section bulges or overhang
  • Chest – defining the pecs, and addressing man boobs or gynaecomastia
  • Thighs and legs
  • Flanks – defining abdominal sides and removing love handles
  • Arms – defining biceps
  • Buttocks
  • Back
  • Waist

How does it work?

Liposuction can be performed through a simple manual action using a cannula and suction or with energy assistance such as ultrasound or radiofrequency waves to break down the fat cells prior to suction, to make them easier to remove. Using systems such as VASER® Lipo and VASER® Hi Def offers treatment through smaller incisions and with minimal side effects and downtime.

The procedure is performed using local anaesthesia referred to as tumescent anaesthesia or fluid anaesthesia. This is where a small amount of liquid containing the anaesthetic agent (lidocaine) is infused into the tissue to numb the area before the fat cells are suctioned out using the liposuction system.

The VASER Hi Def can be used to precisely tone and define around the muscle by removing small deposits that sit around and on top of the muscle, reaching areas, including deeper pockets of fat that traditional liposuction techniques cannot. The skill in the sculpting lies with the surgeon and the ability to define individual muscle groups.

FAQ's

Your suitability for VASER Hi Def will be determined during a consultation with our doctor. A full medical history will also be discussed.

Liposuction is not a cure for weight loss or a means to remove large quantities of fat, so your weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) will be evaluated during the consultation. VASER Hi Def is also a step up from VASER Liposuction so is designed for those who are already near their ideal weight and body shape but seek further definition of the underlying musculature as they work towards their desired appearance.

If you are in general good health, with an average body shape, and have realistic expectations from this procedure, you will be a good candidate for VASER high definition liposuction.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not suitable for this procedure.

Those with a history of poor wound healing or scarring may also not be suitable for treatment.

Traditional liposuction procedures are performed under local anaesthesia using a tumescent liquid infusion of lidocaine to reduce any discomfort during the procedure by numbing the area and to help break up and loosen fat cells. The VASER Hi Def uses much less liquid with the local anaesthesia which also reduces the stretch on the overlying skin. You may still feel a sensation of tugging from the cannula movement and suction during the procedure but should not feel any pain during the operation.

The procedure takes 1-2 hours, depending on the size and number of areas being sculpted.

Modern liposuction techniques are designed to remove fat with minimal trauma; however, you should still expect swelling, bruising and discomfort in the days following any liposuction procedure, including the minimally invasive VASER Hi Def.

Most pain can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications, such as paracetamol, although you may be prescribed additional pain management medication. Depending on the area(s) treated, it may be recommended that you wear a compression garment for the first few days or weeks after treatment to assist in healing and maintaining a good body contouring result from the treatment.

You will be able to return to your normal routine, including work, within a few days to a week of treatment, depending on the extent of the treatment performed and the area of the body sculpted. You are advised to start moving as soon as you can after this procedure as walking and keeping your circulatory system active can assist with healing and help to reduce swelling, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for a month, depending on the extent of the procedure.

The results of VASER Hi Def to create a highly defined musculature will not be visible immediately due to swelling and the need for healing, which can take a couple of weeks. After which you can expect more sculpted lines and definition around muscle groups such as pectorals, abdominal flanks and the six pack across the stomach, for example. The underlying musculature will be much more visible.

Results from liposuction are permanent as the fat cells are removed and do not grow back. However, weight gain can still occur in the remaining fat cells, so it is important that you continue to follow a healthy diet and exercise regime to maintain the sculpted results and appearance achieved from your VASER Hi Def procedure.
