Using the power of innovative science and modern technology, Dr SW Clinic can help you live your best pain-free life without the need for invasive surgery.

Degenerative disc disease is a condition that primarily affects the intervertebral discs of the spine. Despite its name, it is not always a disease but rather a natural part of the ageing process in many individuals. It refers to the changes that occur in the spinal discs over time, and these changes can lead to a variety of symptoms and issues.

The spine is made up of a series of vertebral bones separated by intervertebral discs. These discs act as cushions or shock absorbers, allowing for flexibility and movement while also maintaining the space between adjacent vertebrae. Over time, the intervertebral discs can degenerate, meaning they lose some of their water content and become less flexible. This can lead to a reduction in disc height and changes in their structural integrity.

At Dr SW Clinics, we can treat a range of pain conditions using Regenerative Medicine and pain-relieving injections. If you are tired of living with pain and looking for a non-surgical intervention, then Dr SW Clinics could help you get back to your optimal quality of life.

FAQ's

DD typically occurs as a result of the natural aging process, but it can also be influenced by factors such as genetics, lifestyle choices, and injuries to the spine. The primary cause is the gradual breakdown of the discs, which can lead to a loss of disc height and structural integrity.

The most common symptom of DDD is chronic back pain, especially in the lower back (lumbar spine) or neck (cervical spine). The pain may come and go or be persistent, and it can vary in intensity. Other symptoms may include numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms or legs, depending on the location of the affected discs and whether they are pressing on nearby nerves.

Depending on the joint issue you present with, there may be a couple of ways to diagnose your pain and thereby find you a lasting solution.

Firstly, you will have a telephone consultation with one of our highly trained patient advisors. This patient advisor will ask you a series of pre-assessment questions to better understand your personal needs.

You will then be invited for a consultation with one of our leading experts. To better gain an understanding of the problem, the Consultant may suggest you receive an x-ray or an MRI.

What is an x-ray?
A diagnostic test that can help identify what issues are causing the pain.

What is an MRI?
A diagnostic test using a magnetic field and radio waves for a detailed image of both joint and soft tissue.

What is an ultrasound?
Typically a handheld device that provides an on the spot image of the soft tissue.

Once we’ve received the results of your diagnostic tests, our team will be able to advise you on next best steps to get you pain free.
