Labiaplasty is a surgical treatment which reduces the size and length of one or both of the labia.

The labia is the term used to describe the outer lips (labia majora) and inner lips (labia minora) of the vaginal area. It is very common for the labia minora to protrude outside of the labia majora and appear to hang, which can be uncomfortable as well as causing anxiety due to the discomfort and/or them being perceived as less aesthetically pleasing.

Your labiaplasty treatment will be carried out under local anaesthetic so that it is as comfortable as possible. During the procedure, small incisions will be made in the labia to remove any excess skin and tissue, and the wound will then be closed. The neat sealing of the wound helps to promote successful healing, and ensure that scars are virtually invisible.

Labia minora reduction can be performed on one (in the case of labial asymmetry, where one lip hangs lower than the other), on both. There are two primary techniques that can be used to carry out a labiaplasty. One involves making a straight incision up the outside of the labia, and the other is to create a V shape incision. The appropriate technique will be ascertained at your pre-treatment consultation

FAQ's

Labiaplasty may be a suitable treatment for you if you experience discomfort due to the size or length of the labia. Some women may find that this is particularly apparent during exercise, when wearing tight clothing or during sexual intercourse. Other women may wish to undergo labiaplasty in order to improve the aesthetic appearance of the labia. Whatever your reason for seeking labiaplasty in London, Dr. SW Clinics will assess your suitability at a pre-treatment consultation

The procedure will be carried out under local anaesthetic and therefore the treatment itself is considered painless. You will experience some tenderness, swelling, bruising and soreness following the procedure for a few days up to around 10 days for some women. This can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief medication.

This operation takes approximately one hour.

It is advised that you may wish to take a few days off work following a labiaplasty so that you can recover and care for your wounds in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Most patients respond well to this operation and you will be able to go home on the same day. You should avoid any strenuous activity following surgery for at a least a week and going to the gym, exercising or sexual activity should be refrained from until you have had your follow up assessment.

Once the labia has been reduced and re-shaped, you will go on to enjoy a neater appearance to the vagina and reduced discomfort, giving you a renewed sense of freedom so you can enjoy everyday activities without fear of the pain or embarrassment associated with excessively large labia.
